I found this image in my Picture File of Doom, aka that vast netherscape of random pics I’ve dumped into a folder for potential blog usage. I need to put on my flashlight hard hat every now and then and mine that puppy for gems. This one would’ve been perfect for the last post.
I held onto this since, apparently, June 2022, knowing it would be useful for my blog one day. Too bad that day was last week.
I could put a lot of these pictures into categories, one of which is food. So here are all the random food pics in my file.
Cupcakes my daughter decorated. In case you don’t see it, they spell “YAY.”A new type of apple we found at the store. They were called “Glow” and were delicious. For the first time, I ordered The Special at a fancy restaurant. This was sea bass (who just thought of Dumb and Dumber?) and pasta with squid ink. Suuuuper yummy!Chocolate covered strawberries almost too pretty to eat.Check out that detail.Spike balls–only $1.99! Tempted, for you, but I decided to pass.I think this poor orange cracked on a branch on its way down from the top of our tree. It looks like it wants to eat me, rather than the other way around. I was given a zucchini that literally had my name on it.We got these for my niece’s birthday. One night, I wanted to squirt some directly into my mouth like a mature adult, but didn’t want my kids to know, so Hubby fake coughed to cover the sound. #TrueLoveOh wow, I have a SECOND picture of these. Isn’t it cute that the store has tongs in there to help customers pick them out?A Twix ice cream bar from a free post-wedding vendor. Very creative wedding idea. Also, yum!The sign on the vendor’s cart. 🙂Here I am eating a flower that was a part of that same wedding’s meal. I was told it was edible, so of course I had to try it. It tasted… plantlike. The discovery that my coconut oil loves me. Awwwwhhh.Epitome of random! The butter on the edge of this pan looked like teeth. So, yep. You guessed it. Took a picture for the blog. This is called Mallowmelt. Apparently it was featured, with recipe, in a book series Baking Daughter read, so she decided to make it. It was delicious, but also sugar overload. I could only take so much. Daughter saw this popcorn and decided, “I prefer my food not to become sentient.”And finally, not actually food, but close enough. This dear lady was giving out beer samples at the store! I couldn’t believe it. I tried two. They were good. After I took this, she had my daughter take a pic of me with her so she could use it in advertising or something. I held up my tiny plastic cup of Sam Adams with a smile.
Hooray, the file is a bit smaller now! Which pics were your favorites? What foods (or drink) would you like to try?
About the trivia: An early script of Back to the Future used a refrigerator instead of a DeLorean. Could you imagine? Also, it’s in the 90s today (ugh), so I’m hot, tired, and hungry. (Wonder why?) I’ll hit you back with more trivia next time. Now don’t whine! I let you look at pictures instead of read about Jiu-Jitsu. You’re welcome!

We just got back from our annual anniversary visit to the local Cheesecake Factory. We both are fat and happy right now and only Friday stands between us and ultimate Happiness, ie, pumpkin cheesecake 😀 So I was able to look at all these food pix and not drool, not even once.
The only good Smartfood popcorn is their white cheddar. I tried a ranch jalapeno version once. Terrible stuff! But I can eat a whole “party” size bag of the white cheddar all by myself – come on, sing it with me now!
Nice. Think of me. I’ve actually been thinking of you and all outdoor workers right now. We have this ridiculous heatwave, which I guess we’re just behind the rest of the country in getting, so I can’t complain, but to have to be working outdoors on days like these. Ooof!
Yes on the hearts! I have a post on here somewhere with a child dropping water on my leg and it made a heart shape on my pants. Or maybe laundry detergent made the heart shape. Both? Eh, I don’t know, but yes! I’m with you on that, Beth. 🙂
I enjoy these random picture posts. The strawberry detail was my favorite. The ice cream quote was good but I always heard that Life is is like an ice cream cone. You either lick it or it drips on your shoes.
Betsy, you’re just too organised! 😀😀 I’ve never thought of taking photos and filing for potential use on a blog – a great idea and one I’ll start as well! Your daughter’s comment has me laughing, sentient food! 😀The popcorn looks so tasty though I’d definitely give them a go. The chocolates are divine, almost too good to eat and isn’t it fun eating petals – although they don’t really taste of anything! Fun photo share, Betsy!
So you’ve eaten flowers too, Annika? This was a first for me, and you’re right, they’re just sort of there. Not sure the point except the presentation quality on the plate and the idea of “oooh, you can even eat that!”
I think she did ID me, yes, which was wholly unnecessary given the teenage daughter with me, but rules and all, I guess. But yeah, if she had been like, “Can I see your I–” looks up at me “Oh. Never mind” that would not have been cool of her.
I’m sort of tempted on that darn chayote. I did try a passion fruit (is that what it was?) for you all once. Not only was it expensive, it was not good. So now I’m wary of going out on a food limb for the sake of the blog. At least the chayote is cheap. I’d have to figure out how to eat it. Or how to cut it! Or, you know, touch it!
I had to look up my post to see what I said about it. It is super ugly inside and not appealing at all. I didn’t think it smelled that bad. More like penicillin (when we were kids and had the liquid form?). I thought it tasted like sweet garlic, but not very strong. My daughter-in-law, who grew up in China and went to college in Hong Kong considers it a treat, similar to ice cream! My son had it in China baked into a cheesecake type of pie and thought it was good that way.
VERY interesting. I have a blog friend in Singapore I’d like to visit some day. We have trying durian on our unofficial to-do list for my supposed visit.
Great pictures, Betsy! Beer samples at the store is amazing to me, reminds me of the enlisted personnel bar giving out shots of whiskey at the monthly pay event in Germany. Have a great weekend.
Technically, shoes are edible, too. Doesn’t mean you should take a bite out of your loafers. Just sayin’.
I had no idea Twix made an ice cream bar. Considering it’s my favorite candy bar, I’d be down for trying that. But I’d be most excited about that orange!
All delicious meals and treats, whether homemade or at the store! I’m like that cartoon with baking. I just don’t see how it’ll happen the way it’s described! 😆
Chayote are so good with chicken soup. Although I’ve never seen out with a fuzzy hairy exterior before. So interesting!
Never seen a glow apple either? It’s not genetically engineered is it?
You’ve had chayote! Amazing. You’re so far from Mexico, too! I don’t have a clue what it’s like. This store also sells big, wide cactus leaves, with the spines removed. Again, no idea what people do with those, but I applaud their efforts to eat them.
Unclear on the glow apple. I sure hope it wasn’t genetically engineered. Creepy.
So interesting! They must be very different yet have the same name. The ones here are with all the Mexican and dessert food, but yours are Asian. Wild.
I liked your daughter’s cupcakes although it took me a second to see what she was spelling (getting old – not quite so sharp anymore). What in the world are chayote squash? Never heard of them but don’t think I would want any. Your comment about ice cream and life is so true. That’s what I am trying to do. Enjoy every day, every moment because at my age – you never know when it will have melted. I don’t mean I live in fear, rather I live in excitement that I have been given another day to enjoy.
Not a clue on the chayote either. This store sells interesting things.
When given another day to enjoy, why not have ice cream? 🙂 I appreciate you spending time on my blog, Barb, when instead you could be beating your husband in Scrabble or Mexican Train. 😉
Keep up with pictures like this and you can write a food blog, oh wait, then you have to cook! 🤣 I pick the canned whipped cream squirt right into my mouth too!!!
Chocolate covered strawberries, yes please. Mallowmelt, no thank you. I didn’t know there was such a thing as flavored whipped cream in a can. Not sure how I feel about that. I like your photos, it’s almost like you’re going to become a food blogger. Almost.
The first image stayed with me throughout the read. It’s so true. Discipline says we should take the recipe one step at a time so we’re not overwhelmed from the get-go. But convention says we should read the whole process beforehand, so no wonder we sometimes walk away.
Something about the butter in the pan spoke to me too. Not teeth, but rather random art. I can picture it as a Picasso-like painting.
Finally, I have my own netherscape of data. In my case it’s potential topics, typically brought on by attention-grabbing headlines. Most of these never make it out of the folder but there’s that initial moment where they hold their breath (and my attention) while thinking, “Am I gonna become a blog topic? AM I?”
I’ve been told you’re supposed to read recipes all the way through before you start. So… This is why I don’t generally use recipes.
I’m so glad you liked the butter in the pan. No one else has commented on that. It was just so weird and random, and, okay, I’ll give it to you, a bit art-like, that I had to capture it. Thank you for being the only one who appreciates art. 😉
A fun post, Betsy. Yes, those chocolate covered strawberries look too beautiful to eat. I though the “Yay” cupcakes were lovely too. Thanks for sharing the stray food pics. 🙂
Im a n bed, catching up on posts, now I have to get up and serve myself a bowl of ice cream. Then I’ll have to brush my teeth again, probably pee, and remoisturize. The things I do for you. 💕C

Ugh. I’m not even fond of the temp hitting 80. Next week it’s going to get down to 88, and I’m thinking what a welcome relief that will be. Boo!

It is really sad isn’t it when 88 is “cool”. I don’t know how those in the South survive…

Now I want you to try the chayote and report back to us! Your daughter is an excellent cake decorator!
